Holding the light of the ones
that we guide from the dark of despair
Tonight Saturn’s speed was unusual fast, and while my dark pillars carried me across the rough terrain, I saw the planets and their position inside my head – trying to figure out what had caused this sudden change in its speed. Before me a light shone down from the moon illuminating the landscape, giving it a dreamlike look. The snow was lying thick and deep across the lands, its tiny crystals were shining like a million stars in the pale moonlight – the sight never seemed to lose its power and beauty, even now I stopped dead in my tracks and stared at one of the wonders of our world.
I stood there for approximately an hour before Saturn’s movement woke me up from my trance-like slumber. Immediately I pushed forward and let my dark colored pillars carry me away once again, even though the night was ice cold and unwelcoming, my body temperature wasn’t changed at all – on my skin coal and pearl colored pelt grew, in autumn my fine summer coat had been changed with a warm and cozy winter coat. In winter you couldn’t see my strange markings, and somewhere I was quite happy about that – but in spring, when my thin summer coat returned the endless battle for my bodice began again. My white and black spots clashed and fought for dominance with each other, usually ending in zigzag patterns – other times ending in a flame-like pattern. That hadn’t been a problem in my old herd, everyone had been special In their own way – some had been seers others had extraordinary speed or stamina, my gift was the stars and the planets.
The stars and planets had been my guide from birth, born to an icy world with no mercy, for hours I had wandered by my mother’s side – newborn and extremely vulnerable in the harsh winter. During a snowstorm my mother was suddenly gone, the heat had left my bodice and my screams had torn my throat so much that I had coughed up blood, before he found me. Like a dark shadow he had appeared out of nowhere, lending me his never ending heat before softly coaxing me with him – out of the storm, out of the nightmare. I had followed his light for an hour or two before the storm vanished, leaving behind a beautiful landscape of bright stars and millions of crystals shining in the deep snow. Suddenly my duo colored frame had bumped into a warm body, and a warm smile welcomed me to my new life – they had called me a true stargazer, rescued by the stars themselves.
My features had been decorated by a smile as I thought back on my beginning, but I soon snapped out of it and blinked a couple of times to release myself from its warm bindings, I was too far away now, I had left behind that special herd – they would forever be hidden away, safe from the evil of the world. I remembered my step-mothers warm smiles and calming words gently guiding me in the right direction; I remembered Cenarius proud frame, his emerald orbs watching me with pride as I told him about the stars and their positions. I shifted from a steady walk into a powerful gallop across the snow-covered landscape; I felt my black mane whip across my neck and picked up the pace even more. Oh it was life, life to just run and run forever with the stars blinking above you, telling you with their own special language that they wanted to join in.
