A sizzling sensation swept through the oven that had become Sunset Meadows. There was no breeze to lighten up the effects of the heat and it made it all the harder for Abacuss to move forward into his homeland. Abacuss had his nose down to the ground and he was trying to catch a few bites of what grass was left in the meadow. He was having a hard time finding even a few nibbles but he continued to walk on, turning his head left and right to find even a small shred of forage. Abacuss - although glad he had a home of his own - was getting tired of the endless heat of summer. He wished it would at least lighten up a bit during the day so the time spent in daylight was a bit more tolerable. But what could he do? Yell at the skies and demand God or whoever was up there to turn down the heat? Ha. That would definitely make him look insane. And he didn't want to look insane. No one would want to join his herd then and he would be left with only a select few that would, in time, get tiresome. But he wouldn't throw them out. No, he wouldn't. Because that he would be like his sire. His damn sire that had kicked him out because Abacuss had accidentally hurt his youngest brother. He didn't want to be anything like his father.
Flicking his ebony tail over his muscled flanks the stallion yet continued to amble forward, parting his lappets now and then to catch a few blades between his teeth. Abacuss hoped that Xhexic would arrive soon. He hadn't seen her since they had both agreed, in the wandering lands, that she would be his mare for claiming Sunset Meadows. Abacuss was sure she was around Sunset Meadows now and probably checking the place out, but he wished she was closer to him. He wanted to ask her what she thought of her new home and how she liked her new position as Duchess. He was curious as to what she would say about those things, as well as the new enforcer he had taken in. The Butterfly Effect. That was her name. Oh it sounded familiar. Had they met before? Abacuss thought hard and tried to roll over those unimportant facts in his mind. It took him a few moments to finally figure out who she was. The Butterfly Effect was Athela's sister! How could he have forgotten? Asthela... That name echoed in his mind for a moment as he remembered the previous black queen of Sunset Meadows. She had caused him some grief with Rage but he did not mind. It truthfully hadn't been her fault that Rage was jealous because of how he and Asthela had become friends. It wasn't her fault at all.
Raising his partially-dished cranium to the sky he let his eyes roll over the vast meadow. A few clumps of trees were clustered about in odd places, giving off only a bit of shade from the unforgiving sun. Abacuss trotted over to a spot of shade beneath a grouping of pines. The smell that hovered around the trees was the scent of cooking pine needles. It was a pungent cologne that almost made Abacuss snort to try and clear out his airways. After doing so the black stud parted his lappets and released a brief yet shrill call out into Sunset Meadows.
