RAGE
"Nothing but an old warhorse."
"Nothing but an old warhorse."
Grey carcass moved across the Meadow gracefully, as if I were a young filly new these lands. I had been here a year or two and I knew these lands better then anyone. I knew that there was a dead log up ahead that I needed to jump over. Orbs scanned the area, looking for a herd member to speak with. This herd member happened to be Blair, a new flirtatious mare that I rather liked.
You will never be anything but an old warhorse, left to wander this world alone. No mare will ever love you; no stallion will ever befriend you. You are nothing and you will always be nothing. No mare will ever want a monster like you. You are a brutal murderer and that’s all you will ever be.
Those were the last words I had ever heard from my father. It had been right after I had killed a stallion over a mare, which left me for another. That night I had left Nova’s Peak, my home and birthplace. I had stumbled around, lost and totally confused, until I found Midnight Acres. From the time I had found Midnight Acres my life totally changed.
I had fought a mare of Chaos resulting in a tie and then proceeded to live with Zarian in Silent Woods. Then I met Butterfly Effect, a mare Zarian refused me to claim. That’s when I hated Zarian and disappeared for two seasons. I returned unannounced with a mare, Asthela sister of Butterfly Effect. I then left Zarian and claimed Sunset Meadows as my own.
That’s when Zarian hunted for me, eager to extract vengeance on me. I met him at the Battlegrounds for a brawl in which I was defeated. I secretly swore revenge on the brute and returned home, battered up and injured. I came home to my sweet heart and attempted to mate with her, in hopes of producing a son. Unfortunately we missed breeding season and I was left bitterly disappointed, with migraines.
Then my herd began to grow. Gasper, my loyal dark assassin, joined the party along with Abacuss, my temporary heir. Blair soon joined the herd and I was whisked off to fight Chaos. I battled the stallion I once feared and won, bringing home his daughter Nox as my prize. Little Lady soon joined the herd and was followed by my lost love Butterfly Effect.
Then Asthela left and I was Queen less. Now I had two beauties after the throne and my heart. I decided to wait until next spring to decide upon my Queen. Secretly it would be the one to bear me a son. I was here to meet one pawn in my plot.
Powerful legs carried me farther and farther from my den. Carcass bruised and still cut but not as badly as before. Migraine worked its way into my skull, making even the slightest crunch of a leaf unbearable to hear. Ears perked up, listening to the wind and any assailant who tried to sneak up on me. Orbs focused ahead, trying to seek out my destination.
Nose badly scared from a fight with the mare. Grey coat protected me from the suns rays and sky to the south the same color as my coat. Snort escaped my nose and my sense of smell being tampered with. Rich bipolar blood flowed through my veins, giving me the energy and fury necessary to continue forward. Grass a dark green, reaching up to my knees.
My head told me to stop and eat but my heart told me to continue forward in search of Blair. Sun slow descended over the horizon replacing it with a full moon that was lovely at the moment. A peak cam into view up ahead, reminding me of Nova’s Peak. I was far from my den and in a desperate attempt to impress Blair. A light wind picked up and I let out a sigh, shivering ever so slightly.
A distant caw of a bird intruded on the mostly silent night. I itched to pounce upon the bird and kill the blasted thing. I had a knawing feeling that Nox had birds spying on her. Biting my lower lip I continued toward the peak, wanting to romance Blair more then anything. The grass began to fade as I came closer and closer to the peak.
A nearby snarl intruded upon my thoughts, making my blood boil. Wolves appeared the worst of times. Turning my skull to face the canines I counted them, only two this time. It seemed they grew less in umber the more I encountered them. Rearing up I planted a weak kick to ones face, making it yelp and retreat a few paces.
The second had rounded on my flank, tearing at my tail and making a startled whiney escape my kissers. Foreleg came back to the startled wolf in the muzzled. It crumpled at my back legs and I felt blood tickle onto my forelegs. First wolf returned and I reared up again and smashed its skull repeatedly on the earthern floor. Blood splatter everywhere including into my mouth and onto my front legs.
I licked my lips, tasting the salty blood. I galloped forward, remembering my mission despite the confusing attacks of canine interlopers. I wanted to romance Blair and I intended to do so no matter what. I warily climbed up the peak and walked to the edge of the peak, where the moon seemed gigantic. I layed down and stared down at the ground.
“Oh Blair, my sexy darling, come to me, Rage,” I called from the peak, hoping she heard me.
Muscles rippled as I stood and let out a loud neigh. Teeth snapped out at an invisible enemy and I neighed again. I wanted Blair and only Blair to come. Laying back down I waited for the girl to arrive. Mouth licked at the blood on my coat, I needed to look good tonight.
“I’m ready for you Blair,” I whispered.
